| Obverse description | St. Mark, depicted standing in full figure on the left, presents the vexillum (ducal standard) to the kneeling Doge Giovanni Dolfin on the right, both figures rendered in the flat, elongated Gothic style typical of Venetian medieval coinage. The Doge is shown in ducal robes and horned corno, receiving the standard in a gesture of investiture. The divided legend around the field reads IO • DELPhYNO • S • M VENETI, identifying the Doge and the patron saint of Venice. |
