The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered gold coinage of this period, with a slightly uneven fabric. |

The surrounding legend in uncial Gothic lettering identifies the saint and the issuing city of Rome. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular outline and slightly uneven surface of medieval papal gold coinage. |
