Obverse description Central field displays the papal arms of Julius II — a shield bearing an oak tree flanked by acorns, enclosed within a pointed oval cartouche surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is rendered in high relief in the late medieval hammered style. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the design within a beaded border, reading IVLIVS II PONT MAX, identifying the pontiff as Supreme Pontiff.
