Obverse description Papal coat-of-arms surmounted by crossed keys and the pontifical tiara, the whole enclosed within a quadrilobe frame. The heraldic composition is rendered in the late Gothic manner typical of early sixteenth-century Bolognese coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the quadrilobe border.

Reverse description Saint Peter depicted full-length, standing facing, nimbed and draped in pontifical vestments, holding a large key in his raised right hand and the Gospel book clasped against his left arm. The figure is rendered with characteristic medieval solemnity against a plain hammered field. A circular Latin legend runs along the entire periphery, separated by pellet stops, identifying the saint and the city of Bologna.
