| Beschrijving voorzijde | Draped bust of King Frederik III facing right, rendered in high relief with fine portraiture detail characteristic of 17th-century Scandinavian goldsmithing. The effigy is encircled by a Latin legend identifying the king and his royal titles. A beaded inner circle frames the design, separating the legend from the central field. |

Frederik III had united the crowns of Denmark and Norway under absolute monarchy just seven years before this piece was struck, the 1660 coup-by-consent that stripped the Danish nobility of their constitutional power and made the king sovereign by hereditary right. Norwegian ducats of this reign are struck in remarkably pure gold and survive in very small numbers — Brekke records fewer than a handful of confirmed examples.
