Additional information

Frederik III issued this ducat the year after he consolidated absolute hereditary monarchy in Denmark-Norway through the Kongelov of 1665 — arguably the most sweeping transfer of power from nobility to crown in Scandinavian history. Norwegian gold ducats of this reign are rare survivors; the kingdom produced no domestic gold coinage infrastructure of its own, and output from the Copenhagen mint for Norwegian-titled issues was limited by both political priority and metal supply.

Rønning lists only a handful of confirmed examples for this type.
