Christian VI's ducats were normally struck in gold, making this silver striking an anomaly almost certainly produced as a Probe — a trial or presentation piece — rather than for any intended circulation. Kongsberg, operating primarily as a silver-mining mint, occasionally struck such pieces in native metal regardless of the target denomination's standard alloy. Whether this was a die trial, a royal presentation, or a mint official's personal commission is undocumented.
