The legend ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ (Hellenic Republic) curves along the upper periphery, with the date 1973 positioned in the exergue below the central device. A small engraver's signature (I. ΣΤΙΝ.) appears beneath the phoenix. Above the bird, a faint decorative motif is present at the top of the field. The overall design reflects the nationalist iconography adopted during the Regime of the Colonels. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | At the centre of the field, a left-facing Little Owl (Athene noctua) stands in profile, a motif directly inspired by the iconic ancient Athenian tetradrachm of the 5th century BC associated with the goddess Athena. The denomination numeral 1 appears to the left of the owl, with the Greek legend ΔΡΑΧΜΗ to the right, and the engraver's abbreviated signature Ν. ΠΕΡ. (Nikos Perantinos) positioned below. The reverse design consciously evokes classical Hellenic heritage through its reference to one of the most celebrated coin types of antiquity. |
