背面描述 The reverse depicts a dramatic low-level wartime scene commemorating Operation Chastise, the RAF's 1943 Raid on the Dams. A Lancaster bomber is shown in flight at upper right, approaching a breached dam from which a powerful torrent of water cascades into the valley below, with industrial structures visible at right. To the left of the composition, a detailed rendering of the Distinguished Flying Medal is shown in relief, with the inscription DISTINGUISHED FLYING MEDAL beneath it. The legend WORLD WAR II arcs prominently along the upper border, with RAID ON THE DAMS inscribed to the left of the aircraft, and the denomination $1 centred in the lower exergue.

附加信息

The "Dambusters" raid of May 1943 — formally Operation Chastise — saw 617 Squadron RAF deploy Barnes Wallis's bouncing bomb against the Möhne, Eder, and Sorpe dams in the Ruhr Valley. The Möhne and Eder were breached, killing an estimated 1,600 people, the majority of them Soviet and Ukrainian forced laborers held in camps downstream. Eight of the nineteen Lancasters dispatched were lost that night.

Liberia's commemorative coinage program of the 1990s was essentially a licensing operation, with designs and production contracted to external minting houses and the issuing authority's role limited to authorizing the series.
