Issued under Australia's legal tender framework through the Perth Mint's long-running licensed character program, this piece is part of a broader CBS-authorized Star Trek series released to coincide with the franchise's 50th anniversary in 2016. The original Enterprise design — created by Matt Jefferies for the 1966 NBC series — was produced on a budget so tight that the studio model was built largely from kit parts and household objects, including a plastic filler cap from a 1964 Chevrolet Impala.
Perth struck the coin with selective colorization and a mintage cap of 50,000 pieces across the series run.
