Solomon Islands has issued commemorative dollar pieces in large quantities since the 1990s, many produced by private minting houses under license and aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation. This rugby-themed piece follows that pattern — a small gold-plated issue with no meaningful connection to the islands' own sporting culture, produced the same year the Pacific Games were hosted in Vanuatu.
