Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II NIUE ISLAND 2012 1 DOLLAR
Reverse description Full-colour reproduction of Albrecht Dürer's celebrated 1515 woodcut 'Rhinocervs', rendered in warm ochre and brown tones against a textured parchment-like background across the entire square field. The rhinoceros is depicted in left profile, standing squarely, its body covered in elaborately hatched, plate-like armour panels with scaly texturing on the legs and feet, faithfully reproducing Dürer's iconic and imaginative interpretation of the Indian rhinoceros. Dürer's monogram, composed of the interlocked initials AD, appears in the upper right field alongside the Latin legend RHINOCERVS, echoing the original print's typography. The coloured design gives the impression of an aged master print, highlighting the coin's artistic collectible nature.
