| Beschrijving voorzijde | Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right occupies the upper left of this rectangular flan, with the legend ELIZABETH II inscribed vertically to her left. Below the portrait, the issuer inscription NIUE ISLAND and denomination 1 DOLLAR appear vertically along the left border, with the date 2010 at the lower left. The right portion of the field is dominated by a richly detailed composite scene celebrating the history of flight, featuring three symbolic representations: an ornithopter-style winged apparatus, the framework of an early biplane or glider, and a large radial aircraft engine with propeller, rendered in high relief. The series title HOW MAN CONQUERED THE SKIES is inscribed prominently in the upper right field. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The Montgolfier hot air balloon ascent of June 1783 — a tethered test flight at Annonay, France — preceded the famous crewed Paris ascent by only five months, moving faster from proof-of-concept to manned flight than almost any technology of the 18th century. Niue has issued commemorative silver dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, contracting production through foreign mints and distributing them primarily as collectibles rather than circulating currency.
KM#240 is part of a broader thematic series; few pieces in Niue's output reach secondary markets through actual island circulation.
