The Montgolfier hot air balloon ascent of June 1783 — a tethered test flight at Annonay, France — preceded the famous crewed Paris ascent by only five months, moving faster from proof-of-concept to manned flight than almost any technology of the 18th century. Niue has issued commemorative silver dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, contracting production through foreign mints and distributing them primarily as collectibles rather than circulating currency.
