| Additional information |
Part of a multi-piece Niue series depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ, this rectangular silver issue belongs to a format that was gaining traction among Pacific sovereign minters in the early 2010s as a way to differentiate collector bullion from round coinage. Niue has operated as a prolific licensing platform for external minting programs — New Zealand Mint produced the series — with the island's sovereign status providing the legal framework while contributing little beyond the denomination.
The non-circular flan follows dimensions registered under KM#636, one of dozens of Niue-issued collector pieces from this period sharing the same nominal face value against a silver spot price that made the $1 denomination functionally irrelevant.
