| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing diademed and draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing drop earrings and a pearl necklace, as rendered by engraver Raphael David Maklouf. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left field, with NIUE inscribed across the upper field and ONE DOLLAR descending along the right field. The date 2012 appears in the lower exergue. The entire design is framed by a beaded inner border, set against a deeply mirrored proof field with gold plating. |

Niue has operated as a prolific licensing partner for novelty coinage since the 1990s, leveraging its status as a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand to issue legal tender struck under agreements with foreign IP holders. This Star Wars series, produced in partnership with the New Zealand Mint, was part of a broader run of Disney/Lucasfilm-licensed collector pieces that flooded the market in the early 2010s — gold-plated copper-nickel, issued in quantity, aimed squarely at fan collectors rather than numismatists.
These pieces circulated almost nowhere and were never intended to.
