| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in right-facing profile, depicted with an elaborate crown, pearl drop earring, and necklace, rendered in the fourth definitive portrait after Ian Rank-Broadley. The bust occupies the majority of the inner field against a deeply mirrored proof background. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, NIUE appears at the top, and ONE DOLLAR runs along the right, all separated by small raised dots. The date 2012 is inscribed at the base within a continuous beaded border. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Niue's commemorative dollar program has long operated as a revenue-generating licensing arrangement rather than a genuine domestic monetary issue — the coins are legal tender in name only, struck for the collector market and never intended to circulate on the island. This particular piece marks the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea, fought in May 1942 between Allied and Japanese naval forces in waters northeast of Australia. It was the first naval battle in history conducted entirely by carrier-based aircraft, with neither fleet's surface ships ever coming within sight of the other.
