Reverse description A stylised kangaroo rendered in bold, geometric relief occupies the centre of the field, set against a background of triangular sail forms representing the ships of the First Fleet, which arrived in Australia in 1788. The sails are decorated with fine incised line-work and stippled texturing characteristic of Stuart Devlin's distinctive design language. A beaded arc curves across the lower left of the field, echoing the hull of a vessel. The denomination legend 'ONE DOLLAR' is inscribed along the lower arc of the coin in large, raised lettering.
