Beschrijving voorzijde The central field displays the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Palau, featuring a shield depicting a crowned Neptune figure holding a trident accompanied by a mermaid, with a treasure chest at left, set against waves, and surmounted by a traditional Palauan sailing canoe. The shield is flanked by decorative floral and bead ornamentation, with eight stars arranged in an arc around the upper periphery. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU arcs along the upper rim, the motto RAINBOW'S END appears within the lower portion of the shield, and the denomination 1$ is inscribed at the base of the field.

Aanvullende informatie

Palau has issued commemorative coinage under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, contracting foreign mints to produce themed series for the collector market rather than domestic circulation. This piece belongs to the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World series, one of several multi-coin programs Palau released through that period targeting thematic collectors in Europe and North America.

The Colossus itself stood at the entrance to Rhodes harbor for roughly 54 years before an earthquake brought it down around 226 BC — and was never rebuilt, despite offers of assistance from Ptolemaic Egypt.
