Beschrijving keerzijde Central field bears a full-color reproduction of a classical painting depicting the Byzantine general Belisarius in armor and plumed helmet, receiving alms or tribute from figures in ancient dress, evoking the legendary scene of Belisarius reduced to begging. The colorized scene is framed by silver-finished relief elements including stone masonry, a cannon, and fallen figures at the border. The series legend THE GREATEST WARLORDS OF HISTORY arcs along the upper rim in raised Latin letters, the date 2013 appears at the right, and the name BELISARIUS is inscribed on a cartouche at the lower center of the colored scene.

Aanvullende informatie

Belisarius — the Eastern Roman general who reconquered North Africa from the Vandals in 533–534 and briefly retook Italy from the Ostrogoths — spent his final years stripped of his command under Justinian I, likely the victim of court politics rather than any genuine treachery. Palau's collector series on historical commanders issued this alongside similar pieces on figures from antiquity, a format the mint leaned into heavily during the early 2010s.

Silver-plated copper issues of this type are prone to delamination at the edges with any handling.
