| Obverse description | A left-facing draped and coroneted bust of Liberty occupies the center of the obverse field, executed in high relief in the neoclassical style by engraver Charles Barber. The word LIBERTY appears on the coronet or tiara adorning the head. The legend E PLURIBUS UNUM arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1880 is placed in the lower field. A border of fine beading encircles the entire design, consistent with the refined finish typical of United States Mint pattern coinage of this period. |

| Reverse description | The reverse presents a symmetrical wreath of wheat stalks and flowering roses, tied at the base with a ribbon bow, enclosing a dotted inner circle within which metric and alloy specifications are prominently inscribed: '895.8 S. / 4.2 — G. / 100 — C. / 25 GRAMS', denoting the proposed metric silver standard. Above the wreath, a decorative scrolled cartouche bears the Latin motto DEO EST GLORIA ('To God be the glory'). The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, and ONE DOLLAR. is inscribed along the lower border. A uniform beaded rim frames the entire composition, reflecting the experimental nature of this metric dollar proposal. |
