Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Liberty wearing a coronet or band inscribed LIBERTY and adorned with wheat and cotton motifs, rendered in the style of Chief Engraver William Barber. The date 1880 appears below the bust, with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and a ring of stars disposed along the inner rim. The overall design is characteristic of the experimental Goloid Metric coinage proposals of the period.
