| Beschrijving voorzijde | At center of the field, the Arabic numeral '١' (one) appears prominently above the Arabic word 'درهم' (dirham), together forming the denomination. The circular legend in Arabic script 'الامارات العربية المتحدة' curves along the upper periphery, while the English legend 'UNITED ARAB EMIRATES' runs along the lower periphery in incuse Latin capital letters, separated from the Arabic legend by small decorative dots. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The National Bank of Abu Dhabi was established in 1968, making it the UAE's first bank — founded before the federation itself existed. Its 40th anniversary in 2008 coincided with Abu Dhabi's extraordinary accumulation of sovereign wealth, the emirate having quietly become one of the largest holders of foreign assets on the planet through the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. Commemorative dirham issues of this type were struck in relatively modest quantities and saw little circulation, as most were retained by bank employees and institutional recipients rather than entering general commerce.
