Beschrijving voorzijde Bare-headed effigy of President Habib Bourguiba facing left, rendered in high relief with fine detail. The legend HABIB BOURGUIBA arcs above the portrait in both Latin and Arabic scripts, while the date 1970 appears below the bust. The inscription PRESIDENT DE LA REPUBLIQUE TUNISIENNE curves along the lower periphery in Latin, mirrored by Arabic script on the opposite side. The word ESSAI appears to the left of the effigy in the field, denoting the trial nature of this issue.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued as an essai — a trial strike produced for official approval rather than circulation — this piece was part of Tunisia's contribution to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization coin program, which recruited dozens of member nations throughout the late 1960s and 1970s to produce commemorative issues promoting agricultural development. Essais from the Banque Centrale de Tunisie were typically struck in very limited numbers, primarily for distribution to government officials, central bank archives, and specialist collectors.

The FAO program itself was coordinated through the Bank of Italy's technical advisory arm, with participating nations retaining design control. Tunisia's 1970 entry appeared the same year the country was deepening state investment in its agricultural sector under Bourguiba's post-collectivization recovery policies.
