Riga's dalderi coinage of the 1640s was struck while the city operated under Swedish suzerainty following Gustavus Adolphus's capture of the city in 1621, yet the municipality retained meaningful autonomy over its local silver issues. Christina, still a minor when she acceded in 1632, came of age and assumed personal rule in 1644 — the portrait change on this issue reflects that political transition. The city's mint was answering to a queen now governing in her own right, not a regency council.
Production across 1646–1648 was modest, and the series was effectively ended by Christina's abdication in 1654.
