| Additional information |
Pobjoy Mint struck this piece for the Isle of Man under its long-running licensing arrangement, producing commemorative crowns in both base metal and silver for virtually every major international sporting event from the late 1970s onward. The 1986 World Cup was held in Mexico rather than Colombia, which had originally been awarded hosting rights but withdrew in 1983 citing the cost of stadium construction — a last-minute reshuffling that gave the tournament its somewhat improvised character.
The .925 silver version was a limited collector issue; the cupro-nickel equivalent circulated freely and survives in bulk.
