| 裏面の説明 | Central forward-facing portrait bust of RAF Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader in flying attire, his name inscribed across the lower portion of his uniform. To the left, a detailed vignette depicts a WWII-era Spitfire aircraft in flight above a ground scene showing a second aircraft and a standing figure. The circular legend INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE DISABLED arcs around the upper field, while the denomination ONE CROWN appears along the lower arc, all separated by a raised dot. The entire design is contained within a decorative beaded border. |

Douglas Bader lost both legs in a 1931 aerobatic crash at Reading Aerodrome — an accident that nearly killed him and should have ended his flying career permanently. The RAF invalided him out, but he fought his way back into service by 1939 and went on to lead No. 242 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. He was captured in 1941 after a mid-air collision over France, and the Germans famously allowed the RAF to drop him a replacement prosthetic leg during his captivity.
The Isle of Man issued this crown in the year of Bader's death, which came in September 1982 — making this a commemorative struck while its subject was still alive, by less than a year.
