Additional information

Costa Rica's 1892 coinage reforms were tied directly to the country's effort to standardize its monetary system under President José Joaquín Rodríguez, whose administration pushed for decimalization and cleaner denominational structure. Pattern pieces from this year were produced to test proposed designs and compositions before authorizing full production runs — standard practice for the era's Latin American mints operating under contract with European manufacturers, most likely in Birmingham or Paris.

KM#Pn7 is one of several documented 1892 patterns for Costa Rica, surviving in small numbers almost certainly never exceeding double digits.
