Reverse description The Sudarshana Chakra rendered as a six-pointed star (hexagram) formed by two interlaced triangles, with a central raised pellet at the intersection point. The star design, the dynastic emblem of Travancore, is surrounded by radiating lines and enclosed within a beaded circle, with a scalloped inner border. Malayalam script characters appear in the field surrounding the central device, consistent with the coin's regional origin and issuing authority.

Additional information

Uthram Thirunal Marthanda Varma II ruled Travancore from 1847 under the oversight of the British Resident, the kingdom's real administrative authority by that point. The cash denominations struck during his reign were produced at the Travancore state mint and circulated alongside British East India Company coinage in a region where multiple currency systems operated simultaneously — a persistent headache for merchants and tax collectors alike.

At 0.6 grams and 9 mm, this is among the smallest copper issues in the Travancore series. Survivors in unworn condition are scarce simply because coins this light suffered rapid edge damage in daily use.
