The four characters 紹慶通寶 (Thiệu Khánh Thông Bảo) are disposed in the traditional top-bottom-right-left reading order, separated by the arms of the square central hole. The characters are rendered in a bold clerical style with pronounced horizontal strokes. The obverse surface shows extensive blue-green patination consistent with prolonged burial, with the raised legends emerging from a flat, unadorned field. A plain raised rim borders the coin. |

Thiệu Khánh was the reign period of Trần Nghệ Tông, who came to power after the deposition of his predecessor Trần Dụ Tông's adopted successor amid a palace coup backed by the powerful official Dương Nhật Lễ. The reign lasted only two years before Nghệ Tông abdicated in favor of his brother, making the Thiệu Khánh coinage among the shortest-lived issues of the entire Trần series. The clerical script rendering distinguishes this from contemporaneous issues in regular script — Barker treats them as separate catalog types precisely because the distinction was deliberate, not a die cutter's variation.
