1/8 Speciedaler - Frederik III

Frederik III's early reign saw Norway's mint at Christiania operating under chronic administrative strain — the 1650s were marked by repeated disputes over mint leases, personnel, and the Danish crown's attempts to standardize coinage across its composite monarchy. The fractional speciedaler denominations of this period were struck in small quantities and circulated hard in a Norwegian economy still heavily reliant on barter and foreign coin.

Skaare 551 is among the scarcer fractional types of the reign.
