Moẓaffar od-Dīn Shah's reign was defined by debt and dependence — he borrowed heavily from Russia and Britain to finance European tours he could not afford, signing away customs revenues and trade concessions as collateral. The Constitutional Revolution erupted in 1906 partly in direct response to this fiscal capitulation, and Moẓaffar od-Dīn died within months of signing the constitution, leaving his son Mohammad Ali Shah to dismantle it.
These fractional gold pieces circulated in a monetary system already undermined by foreign-controlled customs administration by the time the series ended.
