| Reverse description | Central field features a plain cross pattée dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing a small pellet or annulet, a design element characteristic of Portuguese medieval billon coinage under João I. The cross is boldly struck and occupies the majority of the reverse field. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the cross, reading PO ET ALGARBII, an abbreviated form of the royal titulature referencing Portugal and the Algarve. The irregular flan edge is consistent with hammered production at the Lisbon mint during the early 15th century. |
