| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Justinian I facing right, the diadem rendered with a row of pellets along the fillet. The emperor's robes are ornamented with a prominent row of pellets across the shoulder, typical of late Roman and early Byzantine imperial iconography. The portrait is executed in a simplified but authoritative style characteristic of Western mint production at Ravenna. The surrounding legend, partially visible on the irregular flan, reads D N IVSTINIANVS P P AVG. |
