Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Queen Victoria wearing an imperial crown and a pearl necklace, her hair dressed in tight curls gathered at the nape. The effigy displays elaborate royal robes with foliate decoration at the shoulder. The legend VICTORIA EMPRESS arcs around the periphery, with VICTORIA to the left and EMPRESS to the right of the portrait. The entire design is framed by a continuous beaded border.

Reverse description Central field bears the denomination and issuer inscribed in three stacked lines reading 1/4, RUPEE, INDIA, separated by a horizontal rule, with the date below. The central inscription is enclosed within an ornate wreath of stylized acanthus leaves, lotus blossoms, and floral sprays arranged symmetrically around the field. The entire design is contained within a beaded border. A small mint mark may appear within the wreath depending on the year and mint of issue.
