Obverse description Central field displays the earlier national coat of arms of El Salvador, featuring a shield with three volcanoes rising from the sea beneath a radiant sun, flanked by two cornucopiae and surmounted by a Phrygian cap above a rainbow, with crossed flags and laurel branches at the base. The arms are rendered in moderate relief within a plain inner field. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL SALVADOR arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. The entire design is contained within a toothed or reeded border that runs along the coin's rim.
