| Obverse description | Central field displays the earlier national coat of arms of El Salvador, featuring a shield with three volcanoes rising from the sea beneath a radiant sun, flanked by two cornucopiae and surmounted by a Phrygian cap above a rainbow, with crossed flags and laurel branches at the base.
