The Libertad bullion series was formally introduced in 1982, but pattern pieces from subsequent years were struck as the mint tested new fractional denominations before committing to full production runs. The quarter-ounce silver Libertad did not enter official circulation until 1992, making 1990 pattern strikes two years ahead of the public release.
