The lower register carries the mint designation 'Zarb Murshidabad,' identifying the place of striking, consistent with standard Bengal Presidency Mughal-style gold coinage of this period. Shah Alam II died in 1806, yet the Bengal Presidency continued striking coins in his name for decades afterward — a deliberate fiction maintained to ease acceptance among Indian merchants and money-changers who trusted the established imperial types. The practice was entirely legal under the fiction of Mughal suzerainty, and the East India Company saw no reason to abandon a formula that worked.
KM#110 quarter mohurs of this frozen-date type were produced at the Calcutta mint well into the 1820s.
