Beschrijving voorzijde Draped bust of Emperor Joseph II facing right, with the legend commencing at approximately the 7 o'clock position and continuing clockwise around the periphery, interrupted at the top by the emperor's effigy. The portrait is rendered in a classical style consistent with late 18th-century Habsburg coinage. The truncation of the bust is plain, without additional ornament.

Aanvullende informatie

Joseph II co-ruled with his mother Maria Theresa from 1765 until her death in 1780, but real authority remained hers. This issue dates to that co-regency period, when Joseph was already agitating for the administrative and monetary reforms he would push through aggressively once sole ruler. The quarter kreutzer was the smallest denomination in regular production — a coin whose purchasing power was already marginal by the 1770s and whose copper content was carefully managed against the cost of minting it at all.
