背面描述 Imperial double-headed eagle displayed, each head crowned, with a central escutcheon bearing the Habsburg arms on the eagle's breast, the whole surmounted by a large imperial crown. The mintmaster's monogram 'MM' appears in a cartouche at the base of the eagle. The date 1694 is divided across the upper field, flanking the crowns. The encircling Latin legend ARCHID AVS DVX B CO TYR runs along the beaded rim, recording Leopold's titles as Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, and Count of Tyrol.

附加信息

Leopold I ruled the Holy Roman Empire for 47 years, longer than any other Habsburg emperor, yet the 1690s were among his most precarious — the Nine Years' War drained imperial finances while the Ottomans remained a serious threat despite the victories following the 1683 siege of Vienna. Small gold fractions like this quarter ducat served a precise commercial function: facilitating transactions where a full ducat was too valuable to subdivide practically in silver equivalents.

Fr#289 places this squarely within the Austrian ducal coinage standardized under the imperial minting ordinances. The Vienna mint's quarter ducats of this period are notably scarce in any condition, the low weight making survival rates poor.
