| 裏面の説明 | The arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg displayed on an oval, mantled shield occupying the central field, quartered with the Salzburg episcopal charges including a lion and a fess. The shield is surmounted by a processional cross and enclosed within a full cardinal's hat from which hang dependent tassels on either side in the customary ecclesiastical heraldic arrangement. The date appears in the lower exergue below the mantled achievement. The milled border surrounds the entire reverse composition. |

Hieronymus von Colloredo ruled the Archbishopric of Salzburg from 1772 until Napoleon's forces effectively ended the ecclesiastical state in 1800. An ardent Enlightenment reformer, he was deeply unpopular with his subjects — and with his most famous employee, Mozart, who famously quarreled with him and was dismissed in 1781. These quarter ducats were struck across that precise period of domestic friction and administrative overhaul, when Colloredo was simultaneously modernizing church governance and alienating nearly everyone around him.
