Reverse description Central design consisting of an ornate cross formed by four interlinked crowned Gothic monograms of Philip II (PHS), arranged in cruciform pattern with decorative foliate flourishes at each angle and a small numeral 8 at the centre. Small heraldic shields are placed between the arms of the cross. The date 1577 is split across the upper field flanking the top of the cross. A Latin legend encircles the periphery reading · PACE :+: ET :+: IVSTITIA · 15✤77 8 S PHS, proclaiming the motto of Peace and Justice associated with Philip II's rule in the Netherlands.
