| Obverse description | The Portuguese royal arms are depicted at center, composed of a cross formed by four escutcheons each bearing five bezants (quinas) arranged in saltire, representing the arms of Portugal. The escutcheons are arranged in cruciform fashion within an inner beaded circle. The circumferential legend, rendered in Gothic-influenced Latin characters, reads SEBASTIANVS:I:REX POR, identifying the issuing monarch, King Sebastian I of Portugal. The coin is struck by the hammered technique, resulting in a characteristically irregular flan with some flatness at the periphery. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays a plain cross pattée dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing a small circular pellet or annulet (°), serving as decorative or mint-team marks. Three additional pellets are placed above the cross, constituting the mark of the manufacturing team responsible for this striking. The circumferential Latin legend IN:HOC:SIGNO:VINCES — meaning 'In this sign thou shalt conquer' — encircles the design within a beaded border. The field and cross are characteristic of the hammered Portuguese silver coinage of the reign of Sebastião I. |
