| Descrizione del dritto | Central field displays the Portuguese royal coat of arms arranged in quartered fashion within a raised inner circle, featuring five escutcheons (quinas) and a border of castles, all rendered in the characteristic Gothic hammered style of the Manueline period. The arrangement presents four shields in cross formation with the central armorial device typical of Manuel I coinage. A beaded inner border separates the armorial device from the surrounding legend. The peripheral legend, reading + I : EMANVEL . R : P : ET : A : D : GVINE, is struck in Gothic Latin lettering between two beaded borders, identifying the king as Emanuel, King of Portugal and the Algarves and Lord of Guinea. The overall style reflects the bold, deeply struck hammered technique characteristic of early sixteenth-century Lisbon Mint silver coinage. |
