| Obverse description | Facing bust of Emperor Manuel I Komnenos, beardless and bareheaded beneath a jewelled crown, clad in the imperial loros; the right hand raises a labarum staff and the left hand presents a globus cruciger. The effigy is rendered in the flat, schematic style characteristic of mid-twelfth-century Byzantine bronze coinage, set within a plain circular border on an irregular flan. |

| Reverse description | Imperial monogram No. 58 (the interlaced monogram of Manuel I Komnenos) displayed prominently in the centre of the field, formed by a cross with letters arranged in each quadrant. The design is boldly struck on a roughly circular, irregular flan typical of hammered Byzantine half-tetartera, with no additional legend or decorative border. |
