Obverse description Half rampant lion to sinister within a beaded inner circle, occupying the upper half of the field above a horizontal line that bisects the design. The lion is depicted in the Gothic heraldic style characteristic of late medieval Low Countries coinage. The circumferential legend in uncial lettering reads MEMENTO DOMINE DAVID, a Biblical reference invoking the name of the issuing bishop David of Burgundy, separated by pellets.

Reverse description A short-armed cross with floral or trefoil terminals at each extremity, centered on the shield of the Sticht (the ecclesiastical territory of Utrecht), which bears the characteristic arms of the Bishopric. The cross and central shield are enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend in uncial lettering reading MON NOVA EPI TRAIECTEN, abbreviating Moneta Nova Episcopi Traiectensis (New Money of the Bishop of Utrecht), with abbreviation marks above relevant letters.
