| Obverse description | Half rampant lion to sinister within a beaded inner circle, occupying the upper half of the field above a horizontal line that bisects the design. The lion is depicted in the Gothic heraldic style characteristic of late medieval Low Countries coinage. The circumferential legend in uncial lettering reads MEMENTO DOMINE DAVID, a Biblical reference invoking the name of the issuing bishop David of Burgundy, separated by pellets. |
