Reverse description The crowned lion rampant of Norway dominates the central field, depicted in high relief facing left with an axe held over its shoulder, a composition characteristic of Norwegian royal coinage of the period. The date 1648 is divided on either side of the lion, and the mintmaster's initials PC appear below the lion's feet. A small mint mark or rose device is visible at the base of the legend. The surrounding circumferential legend, BENEDICTIO : DOMINI : DIVITES : FACIT, translates as 'The Lord's blessing makes rich,' framed between a beaded inner circle and a milled outer border.
