Fat'h Ali Shah's coinage was notoriously inconsistent across provincial mints, and Shiraz — capital of Fars province and a major commercial center on the southern trade routes — operated with considerable autonomy in its striking practices. Type D designations within this series typically reflect a discrete die revision rather than a formal recoinage, the result of accumulated wear or a local mint master's decision rather than any central decree from Tehran.
Provincial silver of this period circulated hard through bazaar trade with the Persian Gulf ports.
