Reverse description Central denomination inscription reading 1/2 PICE INDIA 1897 arranged in four lines within a raised inner beaded circle. The denomination area is framed by an elaborate wreath of intertwining floral and foliate scrollwork, incorporating blossoms and leaves in a continuous ornamental band characteristic of British India coinage design. Small decorative elements punctuate the wreath at cardinal points. The entire design is enclosed by a fine beaded outer border. The deeply recessed field and sharply struck devices are consistent with a proof pattern production.
