Obverse description Central device depicting the heart-shaped shield of the East India Company, bearing the monogram 'VEIC' (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie / United East India Company) formed by interlaced letters over a saltire, surmounted by a cross. The date appears partially visible along the lower rim of the coin. The design is rendered in high relief against a plain field, characteristic of the Bankot Mint's coinage of this period.
